RCL 2011 Information
REGIONAL CELEBRATE LIFE BIBLE QUIZZING
PURPOSE: Celebrate Life is designed to encourage the development and abilities of the youth of the region for ministry in the name of Jesus. Also, Celebrate Life shall encourage the relationship between the Central Region NYI and Olivet Nazarene University.
The purpose includes:
1. Opportunity for spiritual growth, challenge, encouragement, worship and celebration.
2. Opportunity for individuals who participate in district level quizzing, athletics and
talent to advance to the regional level and to use their talents on a broader basis.
3. Opportunity for fellowship among the youth in our educational zone.
4. Opportunity for prospective students and parents to visit and see firsthand, Olivet
Nazarene University.
5. Opportunity for prospective students to be observed by the University faculty.
REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION: Each participant should be an active
member/participant in the Nazarene Church district he/she represents. Each district president is responsible for who may or may not participate in Celebrate Life.
AGE REQUIREMENTS AT THE REGIONAL LEVEL: All participants must be in the 7th-12th grade by the time of Regional Celebrate Life in May in order to participate in any form of competition on the zone/district/regional level.
Quizzing: At the regional level, teams for all official quiz competition, are restricted to 7th-12th grade at the regional level.
A student may participate in more than one activity with the exception of team sports.
A participant may only participate in one team sport – Specific exceptions are made
for certain districts (includes bowling, VB, BB, soccer, golf and mixed doubles in
table tennis.
Each participant must recognize that he/she will forfeit the opportunity to participate if
he/she cannot adjust to the printed schedule.
Quizzing will have priority over sports and sports over talent.
DISTRICT POLICIES
ATTIRE: Each district is responsible for close supervision of its participants on and off campus. Dress on Olivet’s campus shall be subject to the guidance of the District
Superintendent and District NYI President of each district and should be in harmony
with Olivet’s general rules.
Athletic attire such as shorts and tank tops are permitted for active participation in sporting events.
Athletic attire should be avoided, if possible, during the scheduled evening services.
PLEASE NOTE: Sweats or cover-ups may be worn. Shirts and shoes must be
worn at all times.
BIBLE QUIZZING
Registration forms are to be mailed by May 1st (or entered at the www.centralregionbq.nazquizzing.org web site) to Bill Horning.
QUIZ RULES: Regional Bible Quizzing shall be conducted according to the current edition of the rules.
REGIONAL QUIZ TEAM: The Top Sixteen method or other predetermined method determines the one or two Regional Quiz Team’s for post regional quizzing.
REGIONAL COACH: The Regional Quiz Director shall have the option to serve as the regional team coach. If he/she are unable to serve, or chooses not to serve, the Regional Quiz Director shall have the option of appointing or using another means of determining the coach or coaches.
ROUND ROBIN: Quizzing is a “Round Robin Tourney” followed by a top four or more team final.
DIRECTIONS: The Regional Quizzing Director shall arrange the following:
Materials and Judges (Quiz Master, Content Judges – Selection from experienced and/or
properly trained collegians, faculty, the ministry, or knowledgeable district
representatives and laity. Parents of the district team members and district directors
will not serve as a material judge unless as a material judge in a division in which their
child(ren) is not participating-provided there are divisions.
Equipment Technicians
Statistician and scorekeepers –Selection from experienced and/or properly trained
collegians, faculty, the ministry, or knowledgeable district representative, laity and
parents of district team members.
Complimentary package deals are provided for all quiz officials.
AWARDS:
Trophies or Medals:
The top 10 individuals, determined by the top 16 competition, receive trophies or
medals. The winning district team and coach(s), runner-up team and coach(s), and the
3rd & 4th place Division A teams & coach(s) receive individual trophies or medals; up
to 6 trophies or medals per team. 1st Place team in the Division B receive trophies or
metals; up to 6 trophies or medals. Each district garners grand trophy points with the
1st place team receiving the most and the 11th place team receiving the least.
Scholarships:
The top quizzer on the region receives a $2,000 scholarship from ONU to ONU and
each “other” member of the Regional Five (First Regional Team) receives a $1,000
scholarship to ONU. Each person who places 6-10 in the “Top Sixteen” receives a
$750 scholarship to ONU. Each person who places 11-16 receives a $250
scholarship to ONU. ONU shall award up to $1,500 in matching scholarships to each
district each year provided the district makes payment to ONU prior to the student
attending ONU. The recipients receive an award certificate from Olivet during their
freshman year of college. A district may elect to split the amount available between
more than one individual but the sum may only total $1,500. The district must first pay
the amount before ONU will award the matching amount. ONU will only match a total of
$1,500 per district whether one or more people are awarded.
An individual may receive a specific amount more than once but not during the same
quiz year.
OFFICIAL TEXT: The official text used will be the NIV 1984.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Quizzers’ names are in seat order (first name, then last name) and entered on the official
score sheets when all are received. Substitutes must be designated and reported to
the scorekeepers.
Captains (*) and Co-Captains (*) shall be identified on the lineup form. Captain must
be an active quizzer to start the round (able to answer questions). Cannot be the
substitute.
Coach name(s) should be supplied.
Once lineups are submitted, no changes permitted. (Lineups will be confidential.)
All quizzers must be in their assigned seats in the quiz area after all line-up forms are
received or as scheduled or when required by the Quiz Master.
Teams that are more than 10 minutes late may be required to forfeit that round,
provided that rounds are on time according to the official preliminary schedule.
All officials should be prepared to take their positions immediately following the
preceding round of quizzing or as scheduled.
TEAM TIES
RANKING & TIES: Teams are ranked based on their win-loss records in the round robin preliminaries. Head to head competition then total team score, and then fewest errors break all ties.
INDIVIDUAL TIES
RANKING & TIES: Individuals are ranked based on the average from the preliminary rounds for the Top Sixteen quiz off first round. Ties from the preliminary rounds are broken first by total errors in the preliminary rounds, then a 5 question (1 according to, 1 memory verse (one of 3 types) and 3 general questions) quiz off. Ties after the Top Sixteen quiz off will be broken by a 5 question quiz off (1 according to, 1 memory verse (one of 3 types) and 3 general questions
